A durable naming pattern
Start with an ISO-style date so files sort naturally, then add surname, person or event and place. Use a separate suffix such as original, restored or colorized for derived files.
Names that survive software changes
- Use the same order and separators across the whole collection.
- Record uncertainty with circa or unknown instead of inventing facts.
- Keep richer names, relationships and sources in a separate catalogue.
Create a restoration derivative
Preserve the source scan and give the restored result a new, clearly related filename.
