# Recolor the Past

> Recolor the Past is a privacy-first web app that colorizes and restores old family photographs using AI. Upload a black-and-white or damaged photo, get a free watermarked preview in seconds, and pay only to download the full-resolution, watermark-free result. Built and operated in the European Union by SIA CrowFoundry.

## What it does

- Adds warm, natural, lifelike color to black-and-white photos. Colors are an AI-estimated, realistic guess based on the image content — not a record of the original colors and not claimed to be historically accurate.
- Restores damaged photos: removes scratches, dust and creases, improves faded faces, reduces blur, and keeps a natural photographic look.
- Processes single photos, whole folders, or .zip archives in batch; results can be downloaded individually or as one ZIP.

## How pricing works

- Trying it is free: one watermarked, reduced-resolution preview needs no account (colour only).
- A free account includes 3 watermarked previews and ONE full-resolution photo free.
- After any credit purchase, watermarked previews are unlimited; credits are only spent when a full-resolution download is ordered.
- One credit = one basic colorized photo in full resolution. Optional restoration extras such as face improvement and scratch repair cost additional credits — the exact cost is always shown before ordering.
- Credits are sold in packs (EUR, USD, GBP), and prices include VAT where applicable.
- Failed jobs are never charged. Unused credits are refundable within 14 days of purchase.

## Privacy and trust

- All uploads and processing happen on EU-hosted infrastructure under GDPR.
- Photos are NEVER used to train AI models, and are never sold or shared.
- Uploads and results are deleted automatically after a short retention window; users can delete them sooner at any time.
- Embedded image metadata (e.g. GPS/EXIF) is stripped by default.
- AI-edited results carry an "AI-processed" disclosure (EU AI Act Art. 50).
- Authenticity policy: the engine does NOT use generative AI to invent faces, objects or textures that were never in the photo — it blends the image's existing data with AI-assisted enhancement (colour, clarity, careful repair) to stay as historically true as possible.

## Localization

- Available in the 24 official languages of the European Union, with locale-prefixed URLs (e.g. /en, /de, /fr) and hreflang alternates in the sitemap.
